Daisy activities

I'm working on the Daisy Flower Garden Journey. It's cute, but gardening can be pretty difficult if you start in the late fall or winter. Problem solved! I made traveling gardens for my girls to share.

Materials:
Clear 10 gallon tubs with locking lid (1 for every 2 or 3 girls)
an empty water bottle for each tub
a mini spritzer bottle for each tub (out of the travel size area)
1 bag of potting soil for every 2 tubs
seeds - basil works well

Instructions:
Cut the bottom off the water bottle about 3-4 inches tall. Place in corner of tub. This will be a holder for your spritzer bottle. Fill bottom of tub with 2-3 inches of soil. Fill spritzer bottle with water and place in water bottle holder. Snap on the lids. Viola a traveling garden. Take them to your meeting. Have the girls plant their seeds. Draw names to decide who gets to take a garden home. Have the girls bring them back every meeting (or 2 at the beginning) to share and exchange.

Notes from experience:
1) Remind parents that if they have to take the garden to work the of the day meeting, that they will need to take it inside on freezing days. Their car will get too cold and the garden will freeze.

2)If the garden gets overwatered, take the lid off for a day or two. Gardens should be moist but not look like a rainforest.

Welcome

Welcome to my share spot.  I love being a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, and a Room mom for my kid's elementary schools.  Over the years I've done some activities that I'd bet others would like to know about, either to do them themselves or to give them a starting point for their own great ideas.  I decided I should jump on the blogging band wagon and start sharing.  I hope you enjoy what you find here!
